Anna Maharg

Anna Maharg is the owner of Maharg Music Academy. She grew up taking every music class she could; learning piano, trombone and focused on tuba. Anna began teaching piano in between college and grad school. While teaching in home lessons, dashing between two other part time jobs- she realized how much she loved music and creating community. In 2017 she was invited to instruct at Lazier's Music Studio in Harmony. It was like going home, to ascend that same creaky staircase that she had bounced up as a high school student while taking lessons herself. Throughout her time teaching there, she also taught lessons in the front room of her family's home. After 2021, Anna opened her own location in Zelienople, with a couple rooms, beautiful, exposed brick, in a charming historical building with light and laughter streaming in. While she taught at this location, she invited more teachers, fostered many homeless kittens, and realized she loved teaching music in this community. She also started a "student teacher program." The goal of this program is to create opportunities for students she had taught for an extended period of time to be able to learn how to teach beginner lessons with her as a resource in education. When she realized she was outgrowing the location, and it became no longer available; it became the perfect push to a bigger and better space. Now, her music studio offers more than piano, but a variety of instruments. Her goal is to create a space where students needs are met, and each lesson is designed to their needs. Her dogs are usually found in lessons, or the waiting room. Their presence is to encourage creativity, reduce anxiety, and offer comfort in the waiting room as well as practice rooms. Often times, fostered kittens are found throughout the studio. The kittens learn socialization, and the students find exciting motivation to come to lesson and perform pieces in a positive environment. Anna's purpose of the studio is more than music education; it's about teaching work ethic, compassion, creativity, and the value in accomplishing your goals (on and off the piano bench).
